French Designer Roland Mouret Turning Attention to Men’s Suits
Until recently, there were few designers who created both women’s wear and men’s suits. But this has changed in recent years with an increasing number of top fashion designers coming out with their own menswear lines. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the most recent entrant into the menswear field is leading French designer Roland Mouret, who recently announced that he will be presenting his own unique take on the dress suit.
Mouret will launch his 15-piece tailored pieces and separates collection in January. He told the publication that he was inspired to get involved with menswear after being disappointed with the types of Italian suits that he was wearing to important meetings.
“There is a moment in my life that I didn't find at all what I really wanted to wear,” he said. “It may be pretentious, but I wanted to have texture, the right shoulder line, I wanted to find a suit where I don't feel like a business man inside it."
Mouret promises to bring the same subtle tailoring and designs to his menswear collection as his women’s wear items are known for. However, he will not be having a catwalk show for his mens suits like he does for his women’s wear line.
"I don't want to do catwalk because as much as I like women on the catwalk, I don't like men," Mouret said. "Women walk, men just don't get it."
