Think Outside of the Wool Suit This Winter
Just because you are going to a Christmas party at a relative’s house this year doesn’t mean that you have to be stuffed into an uncomfortable tuxedo. Christmas is supposed to be about having fun and being relaxed, something that you won’t be able to do if you are feeling stiff and awkward because of how you are dressed.
Check with the person hosting the party before you start planning your wardrobe. If the expectation is for it to be a formal affair, then you might want to look into designer suits. However, if it’s a less formal occasion you can get a little more creative with what you wear. Perhaps you can pair chinos or slacks with a blazer, but add a T-shirt instead of the plain white button-downed shirt. Or you can wear a patterned button-downed shirt to add your own unique style.
It’s also a good idea to consider when the party is taking place when planning your wardrobe. Parties held in the evening (such as dinner parties) tend to be more formal than ones in the afternoon, necessitating more conservative mens suits rather than a more casual look.
Also, if you need to travel to a cold-weather environment for a Christmas party you might find that your wool suit just isn’t warm enough. Wearing overcoats or jackets can keep you cozy while adding a touch of class to your look.
